That the Parliament welcomes the press and social media campaign from the Scottish Retail Consortium and UKHospitality Scotland, which is urging people in Scotland to be kind, considerate and respectful to workers and fellow customers when shopping, dining or socialising out this Christmas; believes that the festive period can be an especially complex and challenging time for retail and hospitality businesses with colleagues working hard to keep shelves stocked and meals and drinks served; understands that abuse towards those working in customer service has climbed, with figures from the Union of Shop Distributive and Allied Workers (Usdaw) showing that two thirds of retail staff have experienced verbal abuse in the past 12 months; believes that any mistreatment of colleagues in stores or hospitality is unacceptable and should not be tolerated, and commends what it see as this responsible and positive initiative from employers for a little Christmas kindness and courtesy from people in Scotland so that everyone can enjoy shopping and experiences in the bars, pubs and restaurants over the festive period and in turn support local jobs and the vibrancy of the town and city centre destinations.
