Question

To ask the Scottish Executive when the proposed new train service between Edinburgh and Glasgow via Carstairs will be operational and whether trains will call at (a) Carstairs and (b) Carluke.

Answer

Detailed timetable work is underway to test and prove the optimum timetable and stopping patterns for the new service between Edinburgh and Glasgow via Carstairs planned for introduction to the December 2013 timetable.

The service proposals and precise timetabling arrangements for the new route are subject to the formalised rail industry timetable consultation process which will not conclude until 12 weeks before the December 2013 timetable change.
