Question

To ask the Scottish Government what its response is to reported concerns that financial considerations have taken precedent over the safety of passengers and staff in respect to the management of rail infrastructure.


Answer

The funding that Network Rail requires for the operating, maintaining and renewing Scotland’s rail infrastructure, including safety, is Determined by the Office of Rail and Road every 5 years through its Periodic Review process.

The Determination made by the Office of Rail and Road for the period 2019-2024 includes the full level of funding available from the Scottish Government to support Network Rail’s activities in Scotland.
