Question
To ask the Scottish Government what action (a) it and (b) NHS boards are taking to ensure that all NHS staff are being paid for the extra hours they have worked during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Answer
All NHS Scotland staff should be paid the appropriate rate for any hours worked. This has always been the case and has not changed as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. Recording hours worked and ensuring correct payment is a matter for Boards to manage locally. We engage regularly with employers and staff side partners to identify how we can best support NHS staff through this challenging time, and one of the measures agreed is the extension of overtime provisions to senior staff working beyond their contracted hours in order to assist with the COVID-19 response.
