That the Parliament commends Underbank Primary School, in Carluke, on achieving its Gold School Sport Award; understands that the sportscotland award is funded by the National Lottery and is a national initiative designed to encourage schools to put young people at the heart of decision making, planning and implementation of extra-curricular school sport; further understands that the award also encourages schools to self-reflect and continuously improve, recognise and celebrate successful school sport models, and encourages sporting links between schools and the communities around them, providing opportunities for young people to progress; notes that Underbank Primary School works closely with South Lanarkshire Leisure and Culture to deliver a wide variety of activities, and believes that parents, helpers, team leaders, and the participants themselves have a large impact on the success of the programme; believes that participation in sport as a young person helps encourage children develop real world skills, such as positive coping techniques, interpersonal skills, managing their health, and more; congratulates Underbank Primary School on its award, and wishes it well as it continues to collaboratively develop its school sport offerings.
